Sorry, folks.
Juggling more plates than I could handle, I was compelled to devote some time trying to minimize the damage when a couple of them started to fall. That, and a family crisis have taken priority for the last while. Most items have been dealt with now and I am returning my attention to the Sgt. and Prof. with a much more manageable load.
The first (in two parts on WebcomicsNation.com) of the five 'acts' in this story is very near complete and I'm quite keen on getting back to work on this project. I plan to return to regular updates after New Year's day. That is not to say that there won't be some posts before then.
I think there is some pretty cool stuff coming up in the months ahead. I've got some big plans, and I believe I can see some very positive developments for them.

PDF of first 18 pages plus a lame cover
One of the things that has distracted me from working on new pages recently was the announcement at the San Diego Comic Con by TriggerStreet and Devil's Due of a new comics section and contest on the TriggerStreet.com website.
TriggerStreet.com is a site for aspiring writers to get feedback and exposure in the Hollywood entertainment community. Well, there's a lot more to it than that, but you can go and check it out yourself. Anyway, they recently added a section for comics and the top 10, as selected based on user reviews, will be looked at for possible publication by Devil's Due and maybe even a motion picture.
Long shot, yes, but I felt I couldn't pass it by. So if anyone would like, there is a downloadable PDF, in higher resolution than you get on the comic's website, available in TriggerStreet.com's comic section. You do have to register with TS, and it is more involved than most site registrations but it is free. If you like to read, there are tons of plays, screenplays, short stories, etc. there for reading and reviewing. If you do go there, please write a review. Not mandatory but appreciated.

Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into?
Alright, so I'm really, really bad about keeping this baby updated. I'm sorry to say that problem probably won't be remedied anytime soon. I seem to have overextended myself with obligations and projects.
Regrettably, I may have to take a break from the comics for a week or so. I am scrambling to avoid this, but my schedule is very tight at the moment and I really need to attend to my other lives before they collapse.
The biggest unknown is just how much time I must spend finishing up my midlife crisis. You see, rather than purchase a sports car or go on a sexual assertiveness spree, I've opted for the far more expensive pathway of returning to college to pursue a biology degree.
Oh, yes, WAY more costly than a sports car. There was considerable self-debate over priorities this semester, but I know I would regret dropping out of university, even though the practical applications of the degree are sure to be very limited.
This does not mean that 'The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow' will be abandoned. I have 180 pages in mind for this first graphic novel, and am determined to get them out there. I'm just saying that there may be a brief break while I get myself reorganized and address some other obligations.

Changing ISP
Well, todays comic was late, but its not my fault!
Damn crappy ISP drops my connection often and in this last case, for two days straight! I had to wait until they opened for business Monday to get some support to get my connection back. Then I find that WebcomicsNation has been down repeatedly over the weekend. Ah, well.
We've got an install kit coming for another ISP that should be much more stable. That would be nice...

Real wizard and nice guy.
One of the nice people to take the time to give 'The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow' a little thumbs up is Azzerac who is the author of "Steal This Book of Shadows", my current favorite text on occult practice by far. Azzerac does a fine job stripping out what I feel is needless crap and armwaving and just gets down to it. He also gets that there are multiple ways of comprehending and relating to the occult and addresses this admirably.
Understand that it has nothing to do with comics, whatsoever. Although I could see a character modeled on Azzerac appearing in a 'John Constantine: Hellblazer' story.
If you have any interest in what real live witches and wizards are about, check it out. It is a feature on lodestoneandladysmantle. where you can buy supplies like incenses and oils and such.
Anyway, I like 'em.

More 'splainin'
I apologize profusely to those of you who went looking for a new page of the comic on Monday the 21st.
Here is what happened:
1. I decided a series of four pages would be much improved if completely reworked into three and found myself starting over on these pages. Sure enough, they are far better, if somewhat rushed.
2. Living very near nowhere, (Skull Valley is just over the mountain from me, seriously) ISP reliability is a bit spotty. Unless you have megabucks to throw at satellite. A strong wind can cause me to lose my connection. Again, seriously.
3. actually, no problem so far. Despite several time impositions and the minimal commitment to 'the real world', everything was on track and nearly back on schedule. Then I became violently ill.
Much better now, thanks, but WHAM! Down for about two days with a half hour's worth of prep work prior to posting page 23.
Best I can figure, I ate way to much French-bread pizza loaded with a handfull of different cheese varieties and pepperoni and thick with the sauce to late at night after not really eating all day.
After about six hours and for the next couple days I suffered all of the effects of binge drinking without the fun parts. I became familiar with the acoustics of the toilet bowl, was only able to catch sleep in twenty minute intervals between serenading the commode, and squinted through a dehydration headache. I also gained empathy for the computer, HAL 9000, from '2001: A space Odyssey' as I can now relate to what it feels like as one mind slows and loses full functionality. (shiver) NOT cool. Electrolyte balance good, alternative bad.
So, to those of you who were put out by the tardiness of the last update: You may take satisfaction in knowing that I did not enjoy it one bit. No sir.

Some 'splaining to do
OK. I have been absent for way to long. But a lot has been happening.
A little while back, I was invited to post some samples from the comic on a new webcomic social site based in Milan called Oltrecomics. I was even more flattered when I saw the quality of the other stuff there! WOW. A large percentage of the work there so far (it is still relatively new) is definitely pro caliber. Otrecomics is not a typical webcomic site in that it does not have full webcomics but rather modestly sized galleries the site calls 'articles' of up to ,I think, nine images per article. More like a really nice looking index with samples and some very friendly and warm forums. Do check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
I've been thrilled with the feedback I've been getting for 'The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow'. Some very cool people have taken the time to post me short little notes of encouragement. From all over the world! This person-to-person globalization rocks!

First Installment Block Done!
Well, it is a little weird for me to reflect that the Sgt. and Prof. have only been online for almost three months. Not that it seems longer in a bad way. My sense of time is highly subjective and I've pretty much been living the Sgt. and Prof. since the semester ended. For my mid-life crisis I decided a degree in a subject I am unlikely to make a living using (biology) was a better idea that a trophy wife and/or sports car. More expensive though.
Anyway, I've been agonizing over the format of the comic site. I really like the 'elevator' format where one does not have to click to get to the next page, but I worry that it gets out of hand after to many pages. So I am putting in installments blocks of 18 pages. The first will be complete as of Monday the 16th of June 2008. The next installment is where we get caught up with how the Sgt. and Prof. came to be in this situation. A bit of a lull in the action as characters get introduced, situations are clarified and the heroes get to catch their breath.
Have no fear. The action will resume quickly.

'The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow' has readers in many lands.
Welcome to those of you from Finland, Saudi Arabia, U.K., Portugal, Poland, Italy, Malaysia, Canada, Australia, and Rhode Island.
Some are even regular readers. Very cool.

The First Month
Whew! Well, it has been a month since the Imagikraft Diversified Extra-dimensional Amusements site went up featuring The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow. Seven pages are available now and it is pretty much all action. I'm quite pleased with the overwhelmingly positive reactions it has received so far, and am looking to post another eight pages in May and each month hereafter for the duration of the story.
Thanks to every one who has commented or posted to me!
Well, I'm back to work on the comic.

Early feedback
I received some very nice words from Waru over at COMIXtalk:
"Wow. The Sergeant and Professor looks awesome. Looks like a cool world with original, neat creatures and characters. I wanna read more, but why aren't there more pages of it!? Please continue. Kinda confused as to why the sergeant is in the professor's plane. Wanna learn more. And who's the sweet blue dude? Nice artwork, too. Nice job."
I'm glad about the confusion, really. So long as it isn't frustration. The characters are confused here and things are happening pretty quickly. These questions and more will be answered.
As for the admittedly lame release schedule, I am compelled to keep a buffer of completed pages handy just in case I need a breather or something else keeps me from posting. I am working to figure out the best schedule I can commit to. I don't miss deadlines. I plan for blocks and such.
That said, I do have a bunch done and will probably be able to increase the rate of release within a month and still feel pretty comfortable there won't be any interruptions no matter what happens.
Thanks again, waru, for the compliment. I WILL increase the release rate!

The Official Blog of The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow
Welcome!
I'm G.L. Nelson and this is the site for news and information about my webcomic, The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow. Please bear with me as I'm new to this blog thing.
Anyway, The Sergeant and Professor Skeary Winslow is an action/adventure story about two guys with very little in common other than having accidentally wound up in an alternate dimension and thoroughly peeved a very powerful intra-dimensional being in the process. It is updated every Monday.
I hope you enjoy it.
